About Me


Dave Farthing is best known forhis 19 year career as the founding Executive Director of YOUCAN, YouthOrganizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence (1996-2015).

YOUCAN’s mission is to “equipand inspire others to peacefully resolve conflicts and develop healthyrelationships in their communities”. YOUCAN during this period was one ofCanada's leading national organizations run for youth, by youth.

Mr. Farthing's commitment toyouth empowerment and conflict resolution has made a significant difference inthe lives of Canadians. Since 1997, YOUCAN has trained over 30,000 youth allover Canada, China, Colombia and Northern Ireland.

"His commitment to teachingour youth alternatives to violence clearly demonstrates the positive impact ofconflict resolution practices," says Correctional Service of Canada'sformer Commissioner, Keith Coulter. 

In 2016, Dave completed one yearservice with the United Nations Habitat Somalia Programme (UN Habitat, basedout of Nairobi, Kenya). The project created phase 1 of a One Stop Youth Centrewith life skills programming in Mogadishu, Somalia. As part of the YES (YouthEmployment Somalia) program with key UN partners (UNDP, FAO, ILO and theFederal Government of Somalia), the goal was get thousands of vulnerable youththe skills and training they need to secure employment in one of the world’shighest areas of youth unemployment and poverty.


In 2017, Dave co-founded Veriloquent, Inc. (the english word for truth). www.veriloquent.ca
