About Me


Drawingon almost four decades of technical, business and legal experience, Chris is the founder of Tacit Law.

Chris’s practice areas include corporate, commercial, not-for-profit, privacy, communications, information technology, intellectual property, administrative, competition, regulated industries and employment law, wills and estates, as well as commercial, tribunal and appellate advocacy, litigation and alternate dispute resolution. In addition to providing traditional legal services, he assists clients with strategic planning, governance, risk management, business reviews, commercial transactions, as well as corporate and regulatory compliance.

Chris’s past professional experience includes holding a senior executive role in a publicly-traded company, being a partner in a major regional law firm and working in a national law firm. Prior to practicing law, he held various engineering and managerial positions in the private sector.

Chris was called to the Bar of the Province of Ontario in 1987 and is also a member of the Bars of British Columbia, Alberta, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. In addition to being a lawyer, he is also a registered Trade-mark agent, licensed professional engineer and also holds an MBA. He is on the roster of approved arbitrators for .CA domain disputes.

Chris has served on a number of boards including those of Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute, Ottawa Health Sciences Centre Inc., Internet Society Canada Chapter (where he was vice-chair and secretary), Ottawa Humane Society (where he was chair of the board), Toronto Internet Exchange Community (where he was chair of the board and secretary), Vancouver Internet Exchange (where he was secretary), National Capital Internet Exchange o/a Ottawa-Gatineau Internet Exchange (where he was chair) and VeloMetro Mobility Inc., a green transportation company based inVancouver, B.C., (where he was chair and secretary). He is also very involved in Internet governance through various volunteer activities, including as amember of the Advisory Council of the American Registry for Internet Numbers.
