About Me

I am a writer / musician living in Ithaca with my family. My feature "The Lover" has been selected for participation in workshops at StoweStory Labs and (as a short, proof-of-concept script) in many contests, including Manhattan Shorts, Shore Scripts, Big Apple Film, and New York International screenplay. I have interest from 2 producers at this time and I am looking to put this film into production.

The Lover - Feature, Drama/Romance/Coming of Age, 90 pages

Log line: A troubled young woman redefines her family when she realizes the sustaining power of motherhood and the difficult choices women make.

Synopsis
Sandy is troubled about her past, she finds solace with her remaining family, and the courage to move ahead when she realizes the connection she has with her deceased mother, through motherhood itself. The American Neorealist style script pairs flashback and v.o. scenes to show this gritty tale from different perspectives and highlight the mistakes of memory and the redeeming powers of love. Sandy finds out who she is, who her mother was, and how her family works while becoming a mother herself.

Thoughts on the story:
When I was 12, in 1976, our mother counseled my older sister against having an abortion. What followed is not described in "The Lover" but the work has everything to do with that advice.“The Lover” is about family and what that concept can mean to us as individuals. How we can live within these relationships and also outside of them. And how we can be so many different people at the same time. Love is not always a choice. But sometimes it is.
