After 23 years as a non-profit executive specializing in advocacy communications and public relations, I am now shifting my focus and time to filmmaking. I hold a Master's from AU in Media and Film and have produced several short films while at AU including one that was broadcast on Maryland Public Television and recognized with a regional Emmy. Most recently, I have helped program and deliver the Alexandria Film Festival as its vice chair in collaboration with founder Patti North and the festival's chair.

Lorraine Blackwell is a writer, communications professional and documentary filmmaker. Lorraine’s served as director and producer for the 2016 documentary, Dunbar: The Alchemy of Achievement, An Oral History of America's First Black Public High School, which aired on PBS in Washington DC. She is a graduate of Howard University (film) and Virginia Commonwealth University (creative writing). She’s currently producing an agricultural documentary and making short films in her role a senior communications specialist.
