After 23 years as a non-profit executive specializing in advocacy communications and public relations, I am now shifting my focus and time to filmmaking. I hold a Master's from AU in Media and Film and have produced several short films while at AU including one that was broadcast on Maryland Public Television and recognized with a regional Emmy. Most recently, I have helped program and deliver the Alexandria Film Festival as its vice chair in collaboration with founder Patti North and the festival's chair. 

My career goal is to createDocumentaries for local or tri-state libraries, educational institutions, or Military installations on Various topics. I am most interested in providing Documentaries concerning social issues to promote social change.  After COVID becomes manageable I am not opposed to traveling.Thank you!

Lorraine Blackwell is a writer, communications professional and documentary filmmaker. Lorraine’s served as director and producer for the 2016 documentary, Dunbar: The Alchemy of Achievement, An Oral History of America's First Black Public High School, which aired on PBS in Washington DC. She is a graduate of Howard University (film) and Virginia Commonwealth University (creative writing). She’s currently producing an agricultural documentary and making short films in her role a senior communications specialist.
