About Me


Dan Manatt is Director of Democracy Films and Democracy Films'  Media/Client Documentaries consulting.  His documentary credits including The Republic of Baseball: The Dominican Giants of the American Game for Latino Public Broadcasting; and Whiskey Cookers: The Amazing True Story of the Templeton Rye Bootleggers, and The Fort: 177 Years of Crime and Punishment at the Iowa State Penitentiary, both for Midwest public television. 

The Midwest: How the Heartland Made America, a survey history of the Midwest, is Dan's current project — just in time for 2020 when the region will be dominating political news.  Trailer: www.TheMidwest.org

A former elections attorney and political consultant, Manatt is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center and Duke University.  He lives in Bethesda, MD with his three children, and visits his native California and ancestral home in Iowa as often as possible.
