About Me


Ian is a litigator with a wide-ranging, results-orientedpractice. Ian divides his time between providing advice and representingclients in the areas of construction law, commercial law, estate litigation,professional negligence, employment law and under the broad heading ofadministrative law.

In July 2019, Ian was selected to become a Fellow in theConstruction Lawyers Society of America (CLSA). The CLSA Fellowship – which islimited to 1,200 active practicing lawyers worldwide, reflects the excellenceand accomplishments of its Fellowship in construction law and closely relatedspecialties. With over 52,000 practicing lawyers in Ontario, of which only 38Fellowships are available, Ian’s selection to the CLSA speaks directly to thedepth of his expertise and high ethical standard of practice.

Leveraging his experience and high ethicalstandards, Ian has successfully obtained his certification in FoundationalConflict Management & Mediation. He will be submitting his application tojoin the ADR Institute of Ontario and Canada with the goal of becoming a charteredmediator.

Ian obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Economics)from the University of Alberta in 1985 and a law degree from the University ofOttawa in 1991. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993.

Ian co-founded MBCs predecessor firm inFebruary 1993 and is currently the firm managing partner. He is a dedicatedmember of the Ottawa legal community and sat on the County of Carleton LawAssociation (CCLA) Executive serving as the President of the CCLA for the2013-2014 term.

Ian has also served on many community boardsand been active in coaching and managing youth soccer teams in the Ottawaregion.

Away from the office, Ian and his wife, Nicole,enjoy touring Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec on their motorcycles. Theyalso can be found enjoying a passion for Scuba Diving often accompanied ontheir outings by their daughter Celine.
