About Me


Elected to the Academy in 1991, Mr. McDougall has 50 years of experience in 75 countries in the natural resource, IT, manufacturing, consulting, real estate and investment industries as well as research and innovation and academia.  He retired in 2016 after six years as President of the National Research Council following twelve years as CEO oft he Alberta Research Council.  He was the inaugural Chair in Management for Engineers at the University of Alberta from 1991-97.
Mr. McDougall has had an outstanding career in the oil and gas industry, real estate and investment and the field of management consulting and is recognized as a dynamic leader in regional, national and international initiatives. He has served as Chair of Engineers Canada, APEGA and numerous business and not-for-profits organizations. He is currently consulting and teaching innovation management.
