The rooftop garden, located on the top of the BRCA Community Hall, began in the spring of 2014.  The garden includes a communal garden and 15 ( /-) individual plots that can be rented for a season. Our community garden is about bringing the community together, getting to know your neighbours and providing a beautiful space in our community for everyone to enjoy. The Bridgeland–Riverside Vacant Lots Garden consists of three lots (legal parcels of land) that were cultivated under the Vacant Lots Garden Club. The Club was informally established on Nov. 13, 1911, by a resolution of City Council, and it was formally organized on March 2, 1914. The purpose of the Club was to benefit poor families by allowing them to grow vegetables, while at the same time improving the appearance of the city by ridding vacant lots of weeds and garbage. Garden beds can be rented by anyone and we are one of only a few gardens in Calgary with no residency requirements – members simply provide their rental fee and ongoing volunteer hours working on common areas. The Renfrew Community Garden initiative is in it's very early life. Just like any garden, the Renfrew Community Garden needs vision, planning, nurturing, attention, love and patience.
