About Me

Matthew Hua (he/him) is a DC-based hard of hearing composer and orchestrator with a focus on orchestral music. Matthew currently works for The American Pops orchestra as Music Librarian, organizing their library and maintaing sheet music for the 26 piece orchestra. When he is not working for APO, he can be found working on original music for the Northern Virginia Community Orchestra, at OrangeTheory Fitness, or running along Rock Creek Parkway.

Matthew began his professional music work shortly after graduating from Georgetown University where he received a BA in American Musical Culture in May 2022. He started at The Kennedy Center where he assisted on the world premieres of The Mortification of Fovea Munson (Music Assistant) and Don't Let the Pigeon Sing Up Late! (Composer's Assistant). His original music has been performed by members of the Georgetown University Orchestra, the Northern Virginia Community Orchestra, and at weddings.

Outside of composing and orchestrating, Matthew has worked in production-related roles for Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, Live Nation, Nouveau Productions, and IdeasCanlast. Starting as a runner at Wolf Trap, he developed his professionalism with talent while simultaneously training on hospitality. Training icnluded prepping green rooms, stirking rooms, and reading/interpreting riders. He has since built on this training for live events with Live Nation (arena concerts), IdeasCanlast (DMV festivals), and Nouveau Productions (concert hall and theater productions). Through these events he has experience wrangling talent and patrons, managing teams of production assistants, and anticipating the needs of others.
