About Me

I am pleased to be a part of this organization!  I am currently working on a documentary feature film, Fighting Fires and Forging Community--Among the Jaguars! about an amazing community of people in the Pantanal of Brazil.  My previous documentary feature was The Jaguar Wildlife Corridor.  I have done a number of short documentary films including domestic violence in 1987, declining ecosystems and at-risk species in Florida 2021, saving the Florida Panther 2020, and  the Moore's Ford Lynching Re-enactment in Monroe, GA (2009 and 2020).  In 2020, I filmed 5 peaceful BLM and other protests regarding police killings in Georgia.  I have done all the filming, editing, and production on my films.  I have a Ph.D. in Education, a Bachelors degree in Journalism, a Masters/Specialist in Counseling, a Voice Performance Bachelors of Music, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist living in rural Georgia.  I am a photographer, journalist writer/interviewer, peace educator, watercolor artist, children's books author/illustrator, and videographer/cinematographer.  I have filmed social justice interviews and nature videography on my YouTube site:  Dr. Susan Perz.  I retired last May after 18 years as a school counselor to pursue documentary filmmaking full-time.  My whole life has focused around social justice, peace education, human rights, and environmental issues.  I wrote an ebook, Conceiving a Peaceful World:  Women's BodyWisdom, Leadership, and Peacemaking based on 25 years of research before, during, and after my Ph.D., c.2016.  (It has 1100 pages and 4400 footnotes and is on all the e-readers--links are at www.womenswisdom.tv).  It is includes literature reviews on diverse women's anthropological, psychological, leadership, and peace studies.  It is also based on an videotaped interview study of grassroots African American women's leadership in a nonprofit in Gainesville, GA that was doing antiracism and environmental racism education and Toxic Tours of their neighborhood surrounded by 13 industries (because so many people were dying on their street.)  I co-created a 6-week summer Girls Leadership program with this nonprofit based on these interviews, my research, and their 65-year legacy and framework for youth programs.  The program was funded by the Altanta Women's Foundation, through 2 grants that I wrote and it ran for over 10 years.  I have interviewed former VP candidate Winona LaDuke, Dr. Helfand of Nobel Prize-wining Physicians for Social Responsibility, State Representative Tyrone Brooks, a panel from Jerusalem Women Speak (Jewish and Christian women from Palestine speaking about the Gaza Strip conflicts and Jerusalem women's efforts to work together for peace,) State Representative Abdul-Salaam, Cassandra Alexander Green about the killing of her nephew in 2020 by the correctional system, and filmed events such as Conversations at the Carter Center, and the U.S. Social Forum sponsored by the GA Peace and Justice Coalition, and many more.  I am on the Conservation Committee of Georgia Nature Photographers Association and last fall I coordinated our first ever statewide webinar introducing the concept of Conservation Photography with 6 presenters, include myself and 2 guest speakers from SciStarter and NANPA.  My photos have been juried into 5 contest shows, including the Atlanta Botanical Gardens this past February 2022.  My smugmug site is susanperz.smugmug.com   My children's books can be found at www.bunnyfriends.tv   I would like to learn more about your committees before I join one.  :0)
