About Us

City Welding (Sudbury) Limited has been in business for Forty years and is family run with father and son team George and Robert Brouillette. George is the President and owner of the company while Robert is the General Manager. City Welding has three facilities and employs 42 people as welders, drafters, designers and other skilled workers, ten of which belong to the management team who are in charge of the company’s operations.

City Welding provides service in repairs, fabrication, sandblasting and painting and covers many regions in Northern Ontario such as North Bay and Timmins, some regions in Northern Quebec, Alberta (oil sands), and Saskatchewan (pot ash mines for SK), as well as a few US locations. However, the majority of their customers are from the mining industry in Greater Sudbury.

Great employees are the reason behind the success of City Welding. However, it is also one of their biggest challenges. Finding a sufficient number of skilled workers is a difficult task.

City Welding’s experience, combined with a continued commitment to cutting edge equipment, techniques, products and services, has garnered a high reputation from their clients who are satisfied with their work. With their sophisticated facilities and equipment, they are able to provide services to a range of customers, from large-scale industrial clients, to individuals with short-term projects that can be performed on or off site.

City Welding had its humble beginning back in the garage of George Brouillette. Word spread quickly of his quality work and in 1974 the first facility was built. Since then, City Welding has undergone five expansions, including existing renovations and construction of new buildings.

George and Robert take pride in their health and safety program which has seen a very low injury rate since they began 40 years ago. Employees speak highly of City Welding’s commitment to protecting its workers.

City Welding gives back to the community in a unique way. They donate materials and time to help students attending Cambrian College and Collège Boréal who want to get into the welding industry. City welding also has implemented a high school program initiative to introduce students to trades. Students work for the afternoon to learn about their options and discover their level of interest for future planning. Additionally, City Welding sponsors numerous hockey teams. Recently, City Welding was awarded the Innovation award at the Sudbury Chamber of Commerce Bell Business Excellence Awards.

City Welding is innovative. From designing and fabricating mechanical lifting equipment, to planning the dismantle and re-assembly of a scoop tram underground, City Welding prides themselves on coming up with cutting edge ideas to solve client problems.

George and Robert expect the business to continuing expanding which includes more skilled workers’ joining in the business, a broader products and service line as well as new markets & customers. City Welding will continue to insist on innovation as a developing point for the business.
