Crime Stoppers is a not for profit, charitable organization that empowers concerned citizens to make our
community safer where we live, learn, work and play, through the 100% anonymous reporting of crime.
While Crime Stoppers is an international organization, Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers is an autonomously incorporated organization led by local community members.
Crime Stoppers is based on the fundamental principle that for every crime committed, someone other than the criminal has information that would solve the crime. People can contact Crime Stoppers with information about any crime, whether it has already been committed, is in progress or is about to occur. Tipsters can call us locally at 705 222-TIPS (8477), toll free at 1 800 222 TIPS (8477), can go to our website at
www.sudburycrimestoppers.ca, or can use the Tip button on our
Facebook page.
Concerned citizens may not want to get involved because they fear reprisal and don't want to testify or become a material witness to a crime. Crime Stoppers provides a safe and 100% anonymous way for citizens to pass on information to law enforcement agencies.
A partnership between the public, the media and law enforcement, the Crime Stoppers Tipster Campaign encourages concerned citizens to tell what they know about a crime that has happened, is happening or will happen. Tipsters who give a tip that results in a successful resolution (for example arrests, recovery of weapons, stolen goods, drugs or the proceeds of crime) can be eligible for an up to $2000.00, 100% anonymous cash reward.
While people often believe we are part of and funded by police, we don't receive any guaranteed core funding from law enforcement, municipal, provincial, or federal government agencies. Everything Crime Stoppers does is paid for through grants, fundraising and
donations from concerned individuals, corporations, and professional associations, civic and social groups.
In addition to participating in community-based public awareness initiatives, Crime Stoppers organizes,
develops and delivers a variety of subject matter based
public awareness initiatives around critical and emergent public safety issues in our community, for example the opioid crisis, human trafficking and illegal dumping.
Crime Stoppers is committed to partnering with community stakeholders to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities that enrich our volunteers' lives. Many of our volunteers are students and we strive to provide meaningful learning opportunities and purposeful mentorship to help students build confidence, independence and transferable job and life skills.
