The Recreation Department manages 8 Village parks and numerous recreational activities throughout the year. We try to provide something for everyone. Explore and learn about what we offer here. We try to keep it up to date with information about what we do. Check back here often!

The 3 parks located in the Village, McCann’s Memorial Park, Thurston Park and Oakridge Park are maintained by the Street Department and are the home of the Little League and Cinderella League. The Elmira Heights Rotary Club has done a tremendous amount of work for the improvement of Oakridge Park, building a gazebo and concession stands as gifts to the community. Concerts in the park are held in the summer from June to August and several events sponsored by the Merchant Association and the Rotary Club take place during the summer. The Town of Big Flats Parks Department consists of recreation, open space and trails adding up to over 200 acres. We have 9 neighborhood parks, 3 in town parks, and 2 parks with river access. Various pavilions are available for rental for your events. Nature preserve covering 88 acres includes a 1.6 mile hiking trail. Dr. Edward Grandt, well-known Elmira physician, found a quiet refuge in this majestic forest for many years. In 2003, he generously donated his land to the Finger Lakes Land Trust. His goals were simple – to protect it in perpetuity and to share it with the public. For years, he maintained the trail system and a small scenic meadow.
