Dr. Lorrie Kirshenbaum is an internationally recognized authority in the field of viral gene therapy, both cell cycle and cell death proteins in human disease. His ground-breaking discoveries have revolutionized our basic understanding of human disease paving the way for development of novel therapies for heart failure, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Kirshenbaum was also invited to serve as chair of the National Institutes of Health study section on Myocardial Ischemia and Metabolism (a unique and distinguished honour). He is, unquestionably, one of Canada's leading premier scientists whose pioneering work is recognized worldwide.
