About Me

Head, Section of Clinical Biochemistry, Biochemist-in-Chief, Professor & Head, Mount Sinai Hospital, University Health Network, University of Toronto

For his distinguished contributions to the field of genomics and pathobiology of serine proteases, especially the kallikrein family, his group cloned the most kallikrein genes and characterized their locus on human chromosome 19.q13.4. For development of novel reagents for kallikrein research and the demonstration of the pivotal roles of these enzymes in cascade enzymatic reactions, and their involvement in human diseases, especially cancer, his group established the application of these enzymes as diagnostic cancer biomarkers. His original ultrasensitive PSA immunoassays are now used in the clinic for early detection of relapse and monitoring therapy of prostate cancer.
