Dr. Courneya's research program examines the role of physical activity in helping cancer patients cope with treatments, recover after treatments, and improve survival. Traditionally, many cancer patients were often recommended rest as the best strategy for getting through treatments and recovering afterwards. His internationally recognized research program has demonstrated that exercise is not only safe but also beneficial for cancer patients receiving many different treatments including breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and prostate cancer patients receiving androgen deprivation therapy. Moreover, Dr. Courneya's has been a leader in developing guidelines and interventions to help cancer patients achieve healthy exercise levels.
