Chul Park has identified the fundamental mechanisms of cell nucleation and growth in plastic foaming, and has designed systems that measure the critical thermophysical properties of polymer-gas mixtures. Based on his findings, a number of industrially viable foaming technologies have been developed. Chul Park has invented technologies that have significantly improved plastics' properties such as impact strength, toughness, fatigue life, elasticity, and heat- and sound-insulation. Moreover, environmentally hazardous blowing agents have been replaced with inert gases. The transfer of knowledge and technology to industry has occurred both domestically and internationally; hundreds of  companies have licensed his microcellular foaming technology.
