Charles Haynes is a recognized authority on the design and manufacturing of biologics. His research focuses on understanding and tailoring the interfacial, structural and binding behavior of complex biomolecular and cellular systems, and his lab has successfully used this fundamental knowledge to develop commercial technologies and methodologies for designing and manufacturing therapeutics, creating highly accurate and sensitive cancer diagnostic assays, and discovering potent affinity ligands.  He has provided outstanding mentoring of academic and industry leaders in his field, and his role as department head and in creating UBC's Bio-Products Institute is providing crucial innovations and technologies needed to grow Canada's emerging bio-based products industries.
