About Us

Joop and Margriet are the proud owners of the Stamp Falls Bed and Breakfast, located near the beautiful Stamp Falls Provincial Park. This cute B&B is definitely representative of the charm and heart we have in Port Alberni. The facility is on a 2.4 acres parcel of land within walking distance to Stamp Falls, and provides an overnight experience that has people coming from all over the world. They have been in operation for over 6 years, offering 3 bedrooms to guests.

Originally from the Netherlands, both Joop and Margriet now call Port Alberni home. We were curious, and had to ask "why Port Alberni?" With a giggle they told their story of travel and adventure, often seeking hotspots for fishing, great climate, and beautiful views. To their surprise, Port Alberni had it all! They decided to "give it a go, and live here for a while".

Joop and Margriet were so excited to share that they pride themselves on their hospitality etiquette "I come from a nursing background, so I know what to include in an experience so that people are comfortable and relaxed". They offer super comfortable beds, and are installing mini fridges into each room for additional privacy and comfort.

So who are their primary clients? As you can imagine (because of their location) they attract a lot of anglers to their place! In fact, 80% of their returning, and new guests are there to fish the Stamp River, but that is not the only draw for anglers, it is the added insight and expertise that Joop brings to the guests experience.

Joop has over 42 years of experience selling fishing tackle, and ran his own fishing tackle store for 26 years. He knows the ‘ins and outs' of fishing, and often shares some tips and tricks with his guests. Although not a fishing guide, Joop tries to orientate his guests by giving them information on salmon behavior, their life cycle, and which color of wool attracts the fish.

The Stamp Falls B&B offers their guests a ‘family' experience by providing them with shared spaces, a BBQ for cooking, and a world renowned European Style breakfast. Margriet was excited in explaining the breakfast they offer "we have cheeses, baked goods, delicious coffee – oh – and 8 different kinds of prepared salmon!"

A breakfast for kings and queens I am sure, and what is even better, it's included in the overnight cost! The Alberni Valley is lucky to have a B&B of this kind, situated perfectly for the outdoor enthusiast.

When Joop and Margriet are not hosting guests you can find them relaxing with their dogs, and each doing their own hobbies. Joop enjoys ‘birding', he has species identification books, and he records them by keeping track of which ones come to his feeders. Margriet has been cross-stitching her entire life; her art is thoughtfully placed around the house for guests to admire.
