About Me

Alfred Guenkel of Noram Engineering has made major contributions to engineering in Canada. He is the inventor of two generations of patented processes for the production of mono-nitrobenzene (MNB) which are now used worldwide. Currently 75% of the annual 3 million tonne world production of MNB, an intermediate in the synthesis of polyurethane polymers, comes from plants designed in Canada under Dr. Guenkel?s guidance. With several colleagues in the late 1980s he formed NORAM Engineering and Constructors Ltd. in Vancouver, which has sold plants to such major companies as Bayer, First Chemical Corp., Anilina de Portugal and ICI. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at UBC, and has been a generous mentor to junior process engineers.
