About Us


Bear Head Energy is planning to develop, construct and operate a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production, storage & loading facility located in the Point Tupper Industrial Park on the Strait of Canso on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Bear Head will have a capacity of up to 2GW of hydrogen electrolyzers and produce up to 350,000 tonnes of hydrogen and two million tonnes of ammonia per yearAlready permitted as an LNG export facility, Bear Head has more than US $130 million invested in the engineering, development, and site construction on its 250 acres of land and 68-acre water lot. Our team is working with provincial and federal governments and regulators to amend existing permits for the new project, saving substantial work and capital investment.Bear Head has established strong Indigenous relations and already has mutual benefits agreements in place with the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Chiefs, in addition to labour agreements with the construction trade unions.Bear Head is committed to being a sustainable project and producing hydrogen with electricity from renewable sources. The company is engaged in discussions to access grid-connected renewable energy as well as future on-shore and off-shore renewable energy to supply power to the facility and ensure the production process is carbon neutral.Bear Head is a wholly owned subsidiary of BAES Infrastructure, a diversified energy company focused on the development, construction and operation of energy transition projects.
