Robert Johnson has been with Caron Renaissance since 1994 and has served as a primary therapist and as director of family and specialty services during his tenure. His current position as clinical director is reflective of the skills he has garnered along the way. He specializes in facilitating groups for sexual compulsivity and childhood traumas, as well as presenting lectures on relevant topics.
He has enhanced his abilities through years of training in many different therapeutic modalities such as psychodrama training and focused expressive psychotherapy. He was trained by Patrick Carnes, a leading expert is sex compulsivity and sexual addiction and Roger Dalrup, expert in anger management and group psychotherapy. He has specialized training in sexuality and psychodynamic family of origin issues.
Robert has served in various capacities within the chemical dependency field beginning with his work at Behavioral Health of Baton Rouge working with adolescents and their families. Robert's position as a primary psychotherapist for the well-known Sierra Tucson's Sexual Recovery Program allowed him to develop and refine his skills in this critical area of treatment. Robert also worked with juvenile sex offenders as the program's clinical director when he lived in the state of Washington.
He is also a certified trauma therapist through the Post Traumatic Stress Institute and a board-certified sex therapist (CST) in the state of Florida. Robert holds various certifications and licenses in Florida, Arizona, Washington, and Louisiana as well as nationally and internationally. He has expertise in mental health, multicultural, and forensic counseling.
Among his many accomplishments, he is a diplomate and board-certified expert in traumatic stress with the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and a member of the American Association for Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. Robert also served our country with the U.S. Marine Corps (1980-1986) and was honorably discharged.
