About Me


Dr. Carol Cass is Professor Emeritus (Oncology) and Adjunct Professor (Biochemistry) at the University of Alberta. A former Canada Research Chair in Oncology (2001-2008) and recipient of career awareds from the former National Cancer Institute of Canada for 25 year (1974-1999), Dr. Cass`s research interests are in discovery and translational research in nucleoside therapeutics with a focus on membrane transport proteins and their roles in physiology and pharmacology of nucleosides and nucleoside drugs. Dr. Cass is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and recipient of numerous research awards and prizes. She served as Director of the Cross Cancer Institute (2003-2010), Vice-President of the former Alberta Cancer Board (2003-2009) and Chair of the Department of Oncology at the University of Alberta (1996-2007). She has played a leadership role in Canadian cancer research, having served on many national research committees and panels, and is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Terry Fox Research Institute.
