Professional Biography


Edward A. Engstrom, PhD is a Clinical Psychologist /Supervisor at the Arkansas Department of Corrections -Maximum Security Unit for more than 20 years. He earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Capella University while working full time for the department. In addition to his duties as a psychologist/clinical supervisor he serves as the CISM Coordinator and member, overseeing the training and management of critical incident response team members since 1995. He has served as a member of the mental health services department policy and procedure committee setting clinical standards of practice within the correctional facility in accordance with federal and state law, American Correctional Association standards and relevant case law. He has created multiple correctional training courses and learning opportunities some of which include suicide intervention and prevention, stress management for correction, dealing with chronic behavioral and emotionally disturbed inmates, law enforcement training for dealing with the mentally ill, suicide intervention and prevention for law enforcement and corrections as a part of the training academy adjunct faculty and as a instructor certified by Arkansas CLEST and the Arkansas Fire Academy.

He has served the community as a certified firefighter holding the rank of Assistant Fire Chief-Tactical Operations since 1994 (retired 2012) and the township Constable, certified law enforcement officer, since 1999.

Dr. Engstrom served 4 years as an adjunct faculty member, mentor, and college campus chairperson for the University of Phoenix, Little Rock Arkansas Campus in their criminal justice program, additionally teaching for the universities on-line and flex-net programs. His academic work was recognized by the University with awards for "Outstanding Faculty" and the "Faculty of Excellence" during his tenure.
