COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL INFORMATION:, , Located in southeast Shelby County, Collierville was incorporated in 1870 and presently has a population of 47,333. The town area consists of 18,568 acres on 24.6 square miles. The reserve area allows another 13,440 acres to grow into. Nestled some twenty miles east of Memphis, Collierville provides diversified residential living with parks, theatres, a community center and excellent recreational facilities. Recently released results of a special U.S. census indicate that Collierville is growing at the astounding rate of ten percent annually, one of the fastest growing communities in the United States. Once a rural farming area, Collierville is now home to over 45 industries with ample distribution access. Collierville residents, whose income level is above the national average, enjoy a comfortable lifestyle. Money magazine named Collierville, as number 8 in the top 20 cites to live in the South. Collierville High School was nominated among the ?Best Public High Schools in America? by Newsweek magazine and the Washington Post newspaper. CHS is the first and only public high school in Tennessee granted a Cum Laude Society charter. Students are provided an opportunity to participate in over 50 different extracurricular activities including service organizations, clubs, and 27 athletic and club sports. CHS is fully accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and holds memberships in NASSP, TSSAA, NACAC, and SACAC. The school year is 180 days divided into four nine-week periods. The school day consists of seven 55-minute classes. 12% qualify for free or reduced lunch. 85% of our graduates attend a four-year institution and 13% attend a two-year., , SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS AND HONORS:, , The average 2016 ACT College prep composite score is 24.6. The average 2016 SAT CR is 604, Math 610, and W 595. We gave 1,237 AP exams in 2016 with an average score of 70.4 % making a 3 or better. The Class of 2016 had 6 National Merit Finalists, 4 Commended Scholars, 3 United States Presidential Scholar Candidates, 3 state winners of the U.S. Presidential Scholar Program (2002, 2014, 2016) representing TN in Washington D.C. In 2016, our Valedictorian and Salutatorian were the 2016 Tennessee AP (male and female) State Scholars.
