About Us
The Nightingale Centre (TNC) for Grieving Children works to amplify the voices of grieving children, youth, and teens; recognizing that their voices have been traditionally silenced. The death of a loved one can represent one of the most devastating life experiences for children. Currently, there are few mental health resources available for children/youth living with the dying or the death of parent. Programs are offered to improve the mental health outcomes for children and youth who are facing the dying or death a loved one. By providing support as they transition through the stages of grief, children how to integrate their grief and the death into their lives in a healthy way. Children can benefit from informed grief support to mitigate the negative impact of trauma symptoms, enhance their ability to cope with grief, and integrate their grief/loss in healthy ways. Creating and building community amongst grieving children, youth and families with similar lived experience will also influence the development of children, youth and families with empathy, compassion and philanthropic intentions which will act as a catalyst to the development of stronger compassionate communities. TNC provides support in the municipality of Guelph Wellington. The TNC program started in 2019. Since our inception we have offered over 40 groups and supported over 200 families.
