About Me


Sally Thorne is Professor Emeritus at the School of Nursing, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Her research emphasis is the human experience of chronic illness and cancer, especially as it intersects with the structural and ideological underpinnings of our health care delivery system. She also maintains an active program of research in end-of-life care and the evolving implications of medical assistance in dying. She maintains active community involvements, bridging the theoretical enterprise to social action and policy processes. She is an expert in the application of qualitative research methodologies to applied health and health care problems, developing strategic approaches to patient perspective research and the study of complex adaptive systems. She is a Fellow of the American and Canadian Academies of Nursing and the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Nursing Inquiry.
