About Me

Dr. Robert Roberts is a distinguished Clinician-Scientist who developed the initial quantitative assays for the measurement of damaged heart muscle occurring as the result of heart attack. His research into the application of recombinant DNA and its relationship to cardiac growth and the molecular genetics of cardiomyopathies has led to his international recognition as one of the pioneers of molecular cardiology. His discoveries have provided new insight into disorders of cardiac muscle, heart rhythm and how pharmacologic agents may modify heart muscle disorder. In 2004 he moved from Baylor College of Medicine where he established the application of genetics into research and the management of heart muscle disease to assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ottawa Heart Institute. Here he has continued his pioneering work in evaluating the genetic basis for coronary artery disease.
