Dr. Peter Tugwell is Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology & Community Medicine at the University of Ottawa and is a practicing rheumatologist at the Ottawa Hospital, Ottawa, Canada. He is the Director for the Centre for Global Health under the Institute of Population Health, University of Ottawa and was awarded a Canada Research Chair in Health Equity in 2002. In 2008 Dr. Tugwell was named Researcher of the Year by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Dr. Tugwell is co-director of WHO Collaborating Centre for Knowledge Translation and Health Technology Assessment in Health Equity. He is Coordinating Editor of the Cochrane Musculoskeletal Review Group and the Campbell and Cochrane Equity Methods Group. He is North American editor of the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology.Dr. Tugwell’s publication record includes over 400 journal articles, monographs, and book chapters. Many of these have been in the area of rheumatology. Dr. Tugwell’s research interests also extend to developing and evaluating strategies for assessing quality of life and utilities, the evaluation and development of educational strategies in the teaching of medicine, research into the disadvantaged, global health, knowledge translation, decision support and consumer participation in research and health care.
