Paul Armstrong is a Distinguished University Professor at the University of Alberta.He serves in a broad range of consultative, editorial, and research leadership roles. In recognition of his academic leadership, Dr. Armstrong has received numerous awards for scholarly and societal contributions. He publishes extensively, frequently lectures in national and international academic forums,and plays an active leadership role in the conduct of a number of ongoing cardiovascular clinical trials. He serves as an associate editor of Circulation: Heart Failure, a senior advisory editor for Circulation, a guest editor for JACC Heart Failure, and is a member of several other editorial boards including the European Heart Journal and JAMA Cardiology. Dr. Armstrong’s commitment to the education, training, and mentoring of healthcare professionals, research trainees, and faculty spans over 40 years and is a key signature of his career. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in acute coronary disease and heart failure and has a particular interest in novel approaches to the design of clinical trials and their interpretation. Dr.Armstrong is the founding Director of the Canadian VIGOUR Centre (Virtual Coordinating Centre for Global Collaborative Cardiovascular Research), a University of Alberta Research Centre devoted to enhancing cardio vascular health for current and future generations through the conduct of innovative clinical investigations and the dissemination of their learnings. Dr. Armstrong was the founding President of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and an Officer of the Order of Canada.
