About Me

I work primarily as an executive coach and clinical supervisor. Being able to draw on broad experience providing therapy and in organisational consulting adds depth to the services I can provide in coaching and supervision. I occasionally see individual clients for selected personal issues.

I work from an integrated, multi-theoretical basis with a results-focussed, Positive Psychology framework dominant in coaching work and a predominantly transformative intent in clinical supervision. Overall, my approach is client-centred and facilitative, with an emphasis on achieving client-defined outcomes. I have expertise in Soft Systems Methodology, a useful approach for wicked organisational challenges, am trained in PCM (Process Communication Model) and have had sustained engagement with Gestalt in Organisations.

I have 30 years' experience as a practicing psychologist and educator, and previously worked in consulting roles in special education and adult disability services; registered in Australia from 1992 – 2009 prior to moving to New Zealand. As an academic, I have supervised research, taught a wide range of courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and professional level including professional ethics, and trained/supervised over 200 interns/provisional psychologists in a wide range of roles including clinical, coaching, disability, educational, health, mental health, organisational and rehabilitation.

  • Most of my therapeutic work has been in the primary sector with people from many cultures including Maori and Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, across the lifespan from children to older adults, and ranged from behaviour and learning difficulties, gifted, long-term unemployed, chronic health issues, rehabilitation, to sexual abuse recovery and critical incident work with employees and emergency services.
  • With organisations, my consulting work has included conflict resolution, facilitation, fitness for work and return to work, selection and performance feedback systems, team development and repair, training, workplace engagement, psychological capital, psychological climate, resilience and wellbeing.
  • In Coaching, I have worked with leaders at all stages from team leader to preparation for retirement; in small business, professions, NGOs, government and private sector; leaders who are neuro-atypical or managing health conditions; navigating complexity, difficult relationships, disaster, failure or stressful situations; and high performers building even more capacity.
  • Formally accredited (Queensland Registration Board) as a supervisor for psychology in 2006, I have provided supervision for a wide range of roles in psychology, and across multiple other professions.
