About Me


Dr.Moira Stewart PhD, is a Distinguished University Professor Emeritus at theCentre for Studies in Family Medicine at Western University and formerly theDr. Brian W. Gilbert Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Primary Health CareResearch (2003-2017).

Dr. Stewart has published widely on the topic of Patient-Centered Care and hasedited, with colleagues, an international series of books applying thepatient-centered clinical method. She is Co-Principal Investigator of a CIHRCommunity-based Primary Health Care Team Grant on Patient-Centered Innovationsfor Persons with Multimorbidity. An innovation, that she led and evaluated,integrated family physician and nurse practitioner care with home care andsecondary care.

She is a National leader in capacity building for research as the PrincipalInvestigator on a CIHR Strategic Training Grant on interdisciplinary primaryhealth care research called TUTOR-PHC.

Dr. Stewart works with 50 clinicians on a project creating a researchabledatabase of the Electronic Medical Record data in Southwestern Ontario. Sheworks closely with policy-makers on collaborative programs of research such asthe Primary Health Care Program funded by Ontario’s Health System ResearchFund.

Dr. Stewart received the James Mackenzie Medal of the Royal College of GeneralPractitioners (2004), The College of Family Physicians of Canada FamilyMedicine Researcher of the Year Award (2007), the Martin J. Bass RecognitionAward, Department of Family Medicine (2008), Co-recipient of the Dean’s Awardof Excellence – Team Award at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry(2010), Fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (2010), Recipientof The College of Family Physicians of Canada, Outstanding Family MedicineResearch Article Award for “Integrating Physicians Services in the Home – AnEvaluation of an Innovative Program” (2011), The College of Family Physiciansof Canada Lifetime Achievement Award in Family Medicine Research (2012),Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, Dean’s Awardof Excellence for Faculty, Lifetime Achievement Award (2017) and the NorthAmerican Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG) Maurice Wood Award for LifetimeContribution to Primary Care Research (2017).
