Majnemer, Annette

About Me

Recent medical and surgical advances have resulted in declining mortality in high-risk newborns, with a shift in focus from survival to sequelae. Dr. Majnemer has characterized a spectrum of impairments, functional limitations and participation restrictions of neonatal intensive care unit survivors such as premature infants and those with congenital heart defects. Elucidation of biomedical, personal and environmental factors as determinants of disability have broadened our understanding of mechanisms underlying injury and identified potentially modifiable factors to be considered in rehabilitation interventions. Dr. Majnemer focuses primarily on early identification strategies for children at high risk for disability and the intrinsic and extrinsic factors that influence outcomes in children and youth with developmental disabilities. She is also studying knowledge translation strategies that promote best practice for children with developmental challenges. She currently leads CHILD-BRIGHT, a pan-Canadian CIHR patient-oriented research (SPOR) network focused on children with brain-based disabilities. CHILD-BRIGHT engages approximately 250 stakeholders in research, training, knowledge translation and citizen engagement programs, collectively aimed at promoting brighter futures for children with disabilities.
