About Us

Member Since December 2019,

Founded in 1920, The English-Speaking Union of the United States (ESU) is a non-profit, educational organization that employs the English language to foster global understanding and good will by providing educational and cultural opportunities for students, teachers and its members. The ESU strives to inspire common bonds—person-to-person, one conversation, one presentation, and one exchange at a time. The ESU carries out its work through a network of more than 60 branches in the U.S. and affiliates in the United Kingdom and 54 other countries, sponsoring a variety of language and educational programs.

The English-Speaking Union of the United States Kansas City Branch, LLC offers educational, cultural and exciting social activities for its members and invited guests. The Kansas City Branch has participated at the National Shakespeare Competition for over three decades and has had first and second place winners. In addition, the Kansas City Branch supports the Luard Morse Scholarships and Teachers Learning Abroad-UK (TLab) program that offers summer study to secondary school teachers in the United Kingdom at the University of Oxford, University of Edinburgh, and Shakespeare's Globe in London. Members enjoy a variety of cultural and social events throughout the year including an annual celebration of the birthday of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II, and we are proud to support the fine educational programs and entertainment at the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonpolitical organization. Members benefit from the personal relationships and international connections gained from ESU activities. ESU membership helps support a wide range of educational programs and scholarships. You will be "creating global understanding through English." In short, belonging to the ESU helps others as well as yourself.
