About Me


Dr. Joy MacDermid is a highly regarded physical therapy researcher who has contributed significantly to the development and evaluation of innovative treatment for adults with hand and upper limb injuries, the design of outcome measures, and the development of evidence-based rehabilitation practice. She is Professor and Assistant Dean in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University. Dr. MacDermid is the only Canadian to be President of the American Society of Hand Therapists and received the CIHR Quality of Life Research Award. Her research in hand and upper limb rehabilitation has led to important changes in assessment and treatment nationally and internationally.
