About Me

John Wallace has made important contributions to understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the gastrointestinal ulcers and bleeding caused by aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. These are widely used drugs, particularly for treating arthritis, but their adverse effects are common and severe. Based on his mechanistic studies, he has designed and developed new hydrogen sulfide-releasing anti-inflammatory drugs that do not produce ulcers or bleeding, and is similarly working on novel drugs for the treatment of other inflammatory conditions, such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and gout.
