About Me


John Brosnan is Professor of Biochemistry at Memorial University of Newfoundland. A world authority on amino acid metabolism and diabetes mellitus, his work has defined the role of the kidney and the liver in regulating the body’s acid-base status, in the interconversion of urea cycle amino acids, and in gluconeogenesis. His recent work has focused on the metabolism of homocysteine, its regulation by insulin, and its role in renal disease. He has served as president of the Canadian Society of Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Chair of the Research Council of the Canadian Diabetes Association, and Chair of the Advisory Board of CIHR’s Institute for Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes
