About Me


Dr. Susan Kirkland is Professor and Head/ District Chief of the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology at Dalhousie University/Nova Scotia Health. She holds the distinctions of Dalhousie Distinguished Research Professor and AGE-WELL Honorary Fellow. An epidemiologist by training, her research lies at the intersection of chronic disease epidemiology and aging. She is one of three principal investigators to design and implement the internationally-renowned Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging, a 20-year study of 50,000 older Canadians. Dr. Kirkland is recognized for her scholarly works on healthy aging, determinants of older adults’ physical and mental health, technology and aging, frailty, and the impacts of COVID-19 on the aging population.
