About Me


Dr Etowa’s career is rooted in a strong conviction that social justice and equitable healthcare are the cornerstones of a healthy society. Her distinctive competencies in community-based participatory research and intersectionality lens have informed her research program, grounded in over 25 years of clinical practice. Her antiracist healthcare practice book is described as ‘the first of its kind in the Canadian literature’ (2009). She co-edited the indigenized edition of Community Health Nursing… (2020). To advance health sciences, she spearheaded institutional policy and program changes at Dalhousie University and University of Ottawa, benefiting students and increasing Black and Indigenous students’ enrolment.
