Dr. Sharon Walmsley is a trailblazer in HIV and AIDS research and treatment in Canada. For more than three decades she has been at the forefront of advances in health care and initiatives to overcome the epidemic. Dr. Walmsley spearheaded early developments on opportunistic infections and antiretroviral therapy, and she is now a world leader in research on aging with HIV and longterm care. Dr. Walmsley has always been a champion for women living with HIV and brought attention to issues specific to women. Her expertise is internationally recognized and has made her a Canadian authority on HIV and AIDS.
