About Me


Dr. Richard Long is a clinician-scientist with a national and international reputation in tuberculosis prevention and care. His interest in tuberculosis, social justice, and health equity stems from volunteer and research work at Hôpital Albert Schweitzer in Haiti. He created the Tuberculosis Program Evaluation and Research Unit at the University of Alberta where he supervised the training of multiple graduate students, postdocs and clinical fellows, developed a wholly public health/academic service delivery model, including virtual care to remote communities, and elevated the standard of tuberculosis prevention and care across Canada. He is an outspoken advocate for the rights of Indigenous peoples.
