Holds B.Eng (Hons) and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, NZ. Spent 20 years at the Montreal Neurological Institute at McGill University as Scientist Currently Scientist at the Robarts Research Institute, and Professor, Medical Biophysics, Medical Imaging and Biomedical Engineering, Adjunct Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science Western University. Adjunct Professor, Neurology and Neurosurgery, McGill University. Fellow of the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine, Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, Royal Society of Canada. Recruited to Robarts/Western from McGill University in 1997. Published 9 books, 365 refereed papers and 37 book chapters. Serves on editorial boards for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Australasian Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine, Computational Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, Image Analysis, and Current Medical Imaging Reviews; and review panels including Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, CIHR, NIH, NCIC, and NSERC, EPSRC (UK)  Research focus is on the development of new technologies to facilitate image-guided minimally-invasive surgery and therapy.
