Fortin, Martin

About Me


Dr Fortin completed his training in medicine at the University of Sherbrooke in 1983 and obtained his certification in family medicine at the same university in 1985. He completed a master's degree in epidemiology at Laval University in 1997. He is Professor and research director of the department of family medicine at the University of Sherbrooke. He is holder of the Research Chair on chronic diseases in primary care, University of Sherbrooke. His research interest is focused on patients who present multiple chronic medical conditions (multimorbidity). Initially, his work addressed the epidemiological description of multimorbidity and its consequences. His interest is now directed towards the improvement of care of patients with multiple chronic diseases in primary care. He works on the development of new models of care based on the inter-professional collaboration. He is the author of numerous publications on multimorbidity. He is co-editor in chief for the Journal of Comorbidity and Leader of the International Research Community on Multimorbidity. Dr Fortin is Research Director at the Centre Intégré Universitaire de Santé et de Services Sociaux du Saguenay-Lac St-Jean. He is a full time researcher within the Centre de Recherche Charles-Le Moyne Saguenay-Lac St-Jean sur les Innovations en Santé. He is also Chair of the Section of Researchers of the Canadian College of Family Physician.
