About Me


Marc Del Bigio is Tenured Professor in the Department of Pathology (Rady College of Medicine) at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg Canada. He has worked as a diagnostic neuropathologist and clinician-scientist since 1994. He held the Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Developmental Neuropathology from 2004-2017. He chaired the Specialty Committee in Neuropathology within the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada from 2008-2014. He served as president of the Canadian Association of Neuropathologists from 2015-2018 and then became a council member for the International Society of Neuropathology. His clinical interests are in pediatric neuropathology and forensic neuropathology. Research interests include: hydrocephalus, hemorrhagic brain damage, mechanical properties of the brain, and effects of substance abuse on the brain (especially alcohol and volatile solvents). He is hoping to understand the challenges faced by translational neuroscience in the use of animal research to develop therapies for human disease.
