The career of Professor Murray Douglas could serve as a lesson for anyone aspiring to be an outstanding chemical engineer. Together with a large body of inspired and relevant research, he has a long and distinguished record of service in education as well as steady and pioneering contributions to the chemical engineering professional societies. His research spans the intellectual bridge of using engineering at a very fundamental level and in significant ground-breaking ways to develop novel processing methods, software and instrumentation of high industrial significance. His coaching has contributed to the development of many well-trained engineering graduates. He was a prime mover in the creation of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering and the Interamerican Confederation of Chemical Engineering.
