Agency Profile
Brighter Futures was created in 1995 to meet a growing need in our community for programs and services for families with young children. The first centres were opened in Sudbury, Espanola and Valley East. Over the years, Brighter Futures introduced a number of programs, such as Creating Healthy Babies and the Infant Food Cupboard that continue to meet the needs of our members to this day. In 1998, the organization changed its name to Our Children, Our Future/Nos enfants, notre avenir and became an incorporated registered charity. In 2004, we introduced Day care services and today we currently operate 8 Child Care Centres in the Districts of Sudbury/Manitoulin. In 2009, our programs expanded yet again as we became a member of the Best Start Network. We currently operate 4 Best Start Hubs with 11 outreach sites in Sudbury South, Sudbury East, Espanola /Massey and Hanmer/Capreol areas. Our agency is part of a system where all partners work to promote healthy childhood development through a responsive, flexible, comprehensive and seamless system.

Today Our Children, Our Future remains committed to securing a better future for Children and their families in our communities through positive learning, socialization, parent education, nutrition and food programs. Families have knowledge and access to services, regardless of income, age, race or ability. Services are seamless, welcoming, conveniently located and responsive to each family as needed. There is wisdom in preventive measures; therefore we must invest energy and resources in our children, families and communities today.

We offer many programs to parents and children that foster a supportive and welcoming environment. The programs for families give all members a chance to strengthen their relationships with each other and within the community. In a welcoming and fair environment, families receive tools and support to nurture healthy relationships.

Many of our programs seek to alleviate some of the stress that food insecurity places on families. The “Food Security “ programs give members short-term support in emergency situations while offering programs that help to address food insecurity issues in the long-term. Supplies of milk, diapers, infant formula, clothing and transportation are a few of the emergent supports provided to families when required.
