Dr. Patel is a pre-eminent scholar and an internationally recognized leader in robotics and control. His outstanding contributions in these fields place him among the most influential leaders in the design and control of advanced robotic systems. His work has resulted in the most thorough treatment to date of redundant and flexible robotic systems. Through highly successful technology transfer, several methodologies resulting from this work are being utilized by the Canadian Space Agency. Dr. Patel's pioneering contributions focusing on numerical and computational issues in control have helped to bridge the gap between theoretical advances in control and their practical applications.
