Prof. Murray Gray has spent his career with the University of Alberta as a researcher, educator and administrator. He has special expertise in hydrocarbon processing, bioprocessing, and the kinetics of high temperature reactions. This work has contributed greatly to improving the technology for processing oil sands bitumen in northern Alberta, and has enabled the training of graduate students. He is very active in providing professional development courses in the area of bitumen upgrading and utilization. Murray Gray believes that teaching is not limited to the classroom delivery of technical materials, but that it encompasses a much wider spectrum.
