Professor Murat Saatcioglu, University of Ottawa, is a leading expert on earthquake engineering and earthquake-resistant design of reinforced concrete structures. He is also the President of the Canadian Association for Earthquake Engineering and the Director of the Ottawa/Carleton Earthquake Engineering Research Centre. Murat Saatcioglu contributed significantly to the development of seismic design provisions in the National Building Code of Canada and to relevant CSA standards; he has equally contributed to structural engineering practice in the US. He has developed a number of new seismic retrofit techniques, one of which has been patented across the world.
