WORKSHOPS, PRESENTATIONS AND SEMINAR TOPICS AND DESCRIPTIONS

Better Decisions with Science
Garbage in, garbage out, is an old truism. It also misses a vital step. The way
you process that information can result in a good decision, or a bad one. In
threat management, where every decision has an active impact on the lives of
others, there is no room for error Through an engaging lens, including mind
bending tricks, Dr. Leite will show how easily we trick our own minds to see
the conclusions we wish to see, rather than the ones we should be making. She
will take the science of bias prevention and turn it into a fun and memorable
presentation, concluding with five simple steps to take to assess for bias.
Attendees will learn how to minimize bias, which leads to better decisions and
clearer judgment. We all have tough jobs, and these tools make them easier.

School Based Threat Assessment

Keep your students and your staff safe. The field of threat assessment is well
researched, and relies on strong theoretical foundations to provide the safety
your students need to reach their highest potentials. The practices you will
learn in this two day training cut through fear and poor decisions to give you
the tools you need to effectively develop and maintain a threat assessment
protocol for your institution. Participants in this one or two day training
will explore student-centered threat assessment research and practical
information through direct instruction and a variety of hands-on, engaging
activities and discussions. The training includes time and resources to begin creating
an action plan for their district/school.

Threat, Free Porn, and Basement Trolls
The area of threat assessment and management is a growing field. It intersects
with areas of clinical interest and with the area of violence prevention. It is
also a very difficult area to study because perpetrators of targeted attacks
are a small and separate group. However, there are some trends that are
noteworthy. This presentation focuses on the trend of the intersection of young
socially isolated males, access to free pornography, and risk of violence
against others. Dr. Leite will use case examples from her practice and the
public domain, as well as her knowledge in these areas to educate and provide
tools to better ask questions, assess, and manage these difficult topics.
